The No. 15 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team remained undefeated in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Thursday night with a 24-12 victory at UW-Eau Claire.
The Warhawks (3-2 overall, 2-0 WIAC) started the dual with 13 straight points and didn't look back, claiming wins at six of the 10 weight classes.
Junior
George Gonzalez (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) led UW-Whitewater with a technical fall at 184 pounds, defeating the Blugolds' Travis Cripe 19-3.
Freshman
Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) earned four points for the Warhawks with a 17-4 major decision over Scott Worlund at 133 pounds.
Senior
Zac Denny (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem), junior
Austin Quartullo (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and sophomore
Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) contributed decisions to UW-Whitewater's point total.
Denny, ranked third in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and second by D3wrestle.com, posted an 11-4 win over Zackary Sirny, who is listed as a "Contender" by D3wrestle.com at 125 pounds.
Quartullo tallied an escape in the third period and hung on for a 4-3 decision at 157, and Bonomo recorded a third-period takedown for a 3-1 triumph at 174.
Senior
Joseph Brodman (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) secured six points with a forfeit by UW-Eau Claire (4-3) at 141 pounds.
The Warhawks continue against WIAC competition this Saturday at UW-Platteville at noon.
Several UW-Whitewater student-athletes will compete at the North Central College Invitational, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday in Naperville, Ill.
