The No. 15 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team participated Saturday in the highly competitive Candlewood Suite Duals at UW-La Crosse, finishing with a 1-2 record for the day.
The Warhawks (2-2 overall) fell 28-16 against top-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) to start the day before posting a 25-19 triumph over No. 20 Cornell (Iowa). The team concluded the day with a narrow 21-18 setback against Concordia (Minn.).

Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) knocked off Arnulfo Olea, who is ranked among the nation's top four by both the National Wrestling Coaches Association and D3wrestle.com, in an 8-7 decision.
Sophomore
Joseph Brodman (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert), ranked fifth in the country by both D3wrestle.com and the NWCA, tallied a 13-5 major decision at 133 pounds, and freshman
Mac Casella (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) scored a pin in the first period in his match against Connor Campo, who is ranked sixth in the nation by the NWCA, at 141.
The Knights claimed six of the last seven matches, with the lone exception at 184 pounds, where junior
Jordan Newman (Blaine, MN/St. John's Military Academy), ranked No. 1 by D3wrestle.com and No. 3 by the NWCA, downed No. 8/7 Bryan Levsen in a 6-1 decision.
In the match against Cornell (2-3), Newman, senior
Zac Denny (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) and sophomore
Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) registered six points apiece with pins. Newman bested Brian Cristion, ranked sixth by D3wrestle.com, with 54 seconds left in the first period at 184.
Denny pinned Vikash Hypio in 4:41 and Bonomo recorded his fall over D3wrestle.com No. 10 Mike Maksimovic in 3:35.
Junior
Austin Quartullo (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and freshman
Riley Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City) were also winners against the Rams for UW-Whitewater. Quartullo knocked off No. 7/10 Aaron Engle by an 11-3 major decision at 157, while Kauzlaric was a 9-3 decision winner at 197 pounds.
Against Concordia (4-1), Denny and Brodman gave the Warhawks a 7-0 advantage with wins at 125 and 133, respectively. Denny tallied a 6-4 decision over consensus No. 6 Jakob Stageberg, and Brodman posted a 20-8 major decision.
Freshman
Ryder Sigler (Fredonia, Wis./Cedarburg) was a 7-6 winner at 165 pounds. Bonomo and Newman earned major decisions at 174 and 184, respectively. Newman knocked off NWCA No. 9 Ricky Briggs.
UW-Whitewater resumes Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Thursday at UW-Eau Claire starting at 7 p.m.
