Tyler's Career Night Helps Warhawks Move to 9-0

No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team posted its highest offensive output Wednesday night in a 109-96 victory over Ripon in a non-conference affair in Kachel Gymnasium.
 
The Warhawks (9-0 overall) shot 52.5 percent from the floor for the game and hit 14 3-pointers in the contest to help fight off Ripon in the second half.
 
Junior forward Scotty Tyler (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) had a career-night dropping 45 points on 13-of-20 from the field including eight 3-pointers. Tyler also added 11 rebounds and five assists. Teammate Chris Jones (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) added 13 of his 27 points in the second half to go along with five assists for the game.
 
Sophomore Andre Brown (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) also had a season-high 23 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Brown was perfect from behind the 3-point arc going 5-for-5. Drew Bryson (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn), Demetrius Woodley (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) and Mitchell Pfeifer (Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine) all chipped in four points apiece.
 
UW-Whitewater outscored Ripon (6-1 overall) by a 16-14 margin on points off turnovers and 15-11 on second chance points.
 
The Redhawks led for most of the first half until a Jones fast break layup gave UW-Whitewater its first lead with 2:53 remaining. Ripon then went on a 7-0 run to close out the half and go into the locker room with a 55-47 lead.
 
The Warhawks had a strong defensive showing in the second half holding Ripon to 39.5 percent shooting. On the offensive side of the ball UW-Whitewater shot an impressive 57.1 percent from the field.
 
Ripon led by as many as ten in the second half, taking a 69-59 lead with 13:33 remaining in the period.
 
UW-Whitewater clawed their way back going on an 11-2 run in a span of just over three minutes to make it a one point game with 10:20 remaining in the half.
 
The Warhawks took their first lead of the half thanks to a made 3-pointer by Brown to make the score 82-80 with just over seven minutes to play. UW-Whitewater lead for the rest of the game, getting up by as many as 14 points with just under a minute to play.
 
UW-Whitewater returns to action on December 29th where they will take on Lawrence in their first of two games at the JustAgame Shootout in the Dells. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
