The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team remained undefeated for the 2016-17 season Tuesday night with an 82-70 victory over Beloit in a non-conference affair at Kachel Gymnasium.

The Warhawks (4-0 overall) shot 50 percent from the floor and hit 16-of-23 at the free-throw line, including 13-of-17 in the second half to thwart a comeback attempt by the Buccaneers.

Junior guard Chris Jones (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) led UW-Whitewater with 24 points on 11-of-20 shooting. Sophomore guard Andre Brown (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) hit 10-of-12 at the free-throw line en route to 15 points, and junior forward Scotty Tyler (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) collected 14 points, nine rebounds and five blocks.

Freshman guard Zach Knobloch (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) contributed 11 points and five rebounds, and senior guard Drew Bryson (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) filled the stat sheet with seven points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals in a team-high 36 minutes of action.

The Warhawks gained the lead 11 seconds into the contest and didn't relinquish it. UW-Whitewater started the contest on a 12-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers by Jones and Tyler.

Beloit (2-2) trimmed the lead down to four by the 14:52 mark of the opening period, but a lay-up by sophomore guard Maurquis Turner (Milwaukee, Wis./King), a jumper by Jones, a free throw by Brown and a layup by Jones gave the Warhawks a 21-10 lead with 8:40 on the clock.

UW-Whitewater led by as many as 12 before the Buccaneers posted an 11-2 run to get within three with 2:13 remaining in the half. Brown tallied four of the Warhawks' final five points in the frame and the team led 36-30 at halftime.

Beloit halved its deficit to three by the 18:30 mark of the second, but Knobloch and Turner hit consecutive 3-pointers to give UW-Whitewater a 44-37 advantage with 15:51 to play.

From there, Beloit never drew to within a possession. The Warhawks hit 10-of-10 from the free-throw line over the final 2:59 of regulation.

UW-Whitewater returns to action next Thursday, Dec. 8, against Rockford (Ill.). Tipoff at Kachel Gymnasium is slated for 7 p.m.
