Box Score Related Links:Box Score Platteville, Wis. – The No. 17 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team combined a high-pressure defense with a balanced offense on Wednesday night to defeat UW-Platteville 74-47 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Williams Fieldhouse.
The Warhawks (15-3 overall, 4-3 WIAC) held UW-Platteville to 31.6 percent shooting from the floor and forced 22 team turnovers with their full-court pressure defensive attack.
UW-Whitewater outscored the Pioneers (4-14 overall, 1-6 WIAC) 21-9 in points off turnovers, while also outscoring them in bench points 56-29.
The Warhawks were led by senior guard
Abbie Reeves (Salem/Westosha Central) who had a career-high in points (24) on 9-of-21 shooting from the field, including six 3-pointers off the bench. Reeves also grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists and had three steals.
Sophomore forward
Kate McKay (Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) recorded 14 points off the bench for the Warhawks on 5-of-9 shooting in 17 minutes. Junior guard
Reilly Stewart (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) and senior forward
Emily Jensen (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa East) each recorded six points for the Warhawks.
UW-Whitewater led from tip-off to finish in this contest. The Warhawks held a 34-19 edge after the first half on 29.27 percent shooting.
In the second half, the Warhawks shot 45.95 percent from the field to put this one out of reach.
The Warhawks will resume WIAC play this Saturday where they will take on UW-River Falls in Kachel Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
