Related Links:Box Score Oshkosh, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team bounced back from back-to-back losses by defeating UW-Oshkosh in a thriller 66-60 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Kolf Sports Center.
The Warhawks (12-4 overall, 3-2 WIAC) were down 10 points heading into halftime but came out in the second half determined to chip away with strong defense and timely baskets.
UW-Whitewater shot 50.0 percent from the field on 23-of-46 attempts, while holding UW-Oshkosh (10-6 overall, 3-2 WIAC) to 44.2 percent shooting from the floor.
Senior guard
Trinson White (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) led all scorers with 19 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds, junior
Cole Van Schyndel (Kaukauna, Wis./Wrightstown) tallied 13 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Senior guard
Haki Stampley (Milwaukee, Wis./Hamilton) collected 14 points, a rebound and one assist on the night.
Freshman guard
Andre Brown (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) added nine points, six rebounds and two assists for the Warhawks.
UW-Whitewater forced the Titans to commit 15 turnovers on the night, and out-rebounded UW-Oshkosh 29-27.
After a tightly contested first 10 minutes of the first half, UW-Oshkosh went on a 10-0 run over a five-minute stretch to give itself a 30-18 lead with 5:00 minutes to play in the half. The Warhawks cut the lead to three with a lay-up by White with 2:36 left in the half, but the Titans went on an 8-1 run to close out the half.
UW-Oshkosh continued to keep their lead between seven and ten points up until the 10:30 mark where a key 3-pointer by Stampley cut the lead to six. With 7:10 on the clock another timely lay-up by White cut the Titans lead to four.
Two free-throws by White cut the lead to one with 5:18 to play, but a lay-up by UW-Oshkosh extended their lead to three. Stampley hit another 3-pointer his third of the night tied the ball game at 58 with 3:19 to play.
UW-Whitewater went on an 8-2 run in the final two minutes to close out the game and clinch the win in a tough game on the road.
The Warhawks will resume WIAC play on Saturday where they will take on UW-Eau Claire (Alumni Day). Tip is set for 5 p.m.
