The No. 20 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team posted its highest scoring output since 2012 Sunday afternoon, defeating Concordia Chicago 107-84 in a non-conference affair at Kachel Gymnasium.
The Warhawks (6-2 overall) shot 63.9 percent from the floor, the team's best mark since shooting 64.7 percent at Wisconsin Lutheran in 2011. UW-Whitewater made 23-of-30 shots (76.7 percent) in the second half.
Senior guard
Trinson White (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) and freshman guard
Andre Brown (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) led the Warhawks with 21 points apiece. Brown added five rebounds and a career-high eight assists, while White tallied eight rebounds.
Junior forward
Cole Van Schyndel (Kaukauna, Wis./Wrightstown) recorded his third straight 20-point performance, totaling 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Freshman guard
Mitchell Pfeifer (Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine) contributed season highs of 13 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench for UW-Whitewater, which also shot 26-of-33 (78.8 percent) at the free-throw line.
The contest started at a breakneck pace, with the Warhawks taking a 21-16 advantage at the 14:20 mark of the first half.
UW-Whitewater extended its lead to 27-17 with 11:30 to play, but the Cougars (3-4) responded to tie the game at 29-29 with 9:02 remaining in the period.
Neither team led by more than four over the rest of the half, and the Warhawks entered the locker room with a 45-44 advantage.
Trailing 63-62 with 13:26 on the clock in the second half, UW-Whitewater responded with an 8-0 run, including four points by White, to take a 70-63 lead with 12:08 left.
The Warhawks never trailed by fewer than five the rest of the way.
UW-Whitewater finished with a 72-30 advantage on points in the paint. The team's bench outscored Concordia Chicago's reserves 45-11.
The Warhawks begin play at the Colorado College Christmas Tournament next Sunday, Dec. 27, against Concordia Texas. Tip-off in Colorado Springs is slated for 8 p.m. Central Time.
