Six in Double Figures to Lead Men’s Hoops past ONU

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team hit 32-of-41 at the free throw line and contained a high-scoring offense Saturday in a 93-73 victory over Ohio Northern in a non-conference showdown at Kachel Gymnasium.
 
Six players scored in double figures for the balanced Warhawks (3-1 overall), led by senior guard Trinson White (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside), who tallied game highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds to go along with a team-best five assists.
 
Sophomore guard Jerry Ngobi (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) contributed a career-high 17 points to go along with four rebounds, while sophomore forward Tyler Edmondson (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) posted 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.
 
UW-Whitewater shot 48.2 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Polar Bears (3-2) by a 45-28 margin, including a 14-7 advantage on the offensive boards. The team held Ohio Northern more than 14 points under its season scoring average entering the affair (87.2).
 
Junior guards Drew Bryson (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn), Ethan Guske (Sheboygan, Wis./North) and freshman guard/forward Maurquis Turner (Milwaukee, Wis./King) registered 11 points apiece for the Warhawks.
 
Ohio Northern jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first minute and a half and led 14-7 at the 13:11 mark of the first period.
 
UW-Whitewater responded with an 11-0 run, including six straight points by White, to take the lead for good at 18-14 midway through the half.
 
Ngobi gave the Warhawks a 43-29 advantage, the team's largest lead to that point, in the final minute of the frame. A 3-pointer by the Polar Bears cut it to 43-32 entering halftime.
 
Ohio Northern cut its deficit to eight with 13:10 remaining in the contest, but a 3-pointer by Turner gave UW-Whitewater its double digit lead back for good.
 
Led by Ngobi and Turner, the Warhawks held a 40-26 edge for the game in bench points.

The Warhawks host No. 1 Augustana (Ill.) Wednesday at 8 p.m. as part of a women's-men's doubleheader at Kachel Gymnasium.
