The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team hung with NAIA Division II's third-ranked team Friday night, but was outlasted 85-74 against Davenport (Mich.) in its 2015-16 home opener at Kachel Gymnasium.

Senior guard Trinson White (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) and sophomore forward Tyler Edmondson (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) led the Warhawks (1-1 overall) with 17 points apiece. Edmondson also grabbed 19 rebounds, which tied for the third most in one game in program history. It was also the most by one player since 1999.

In a game that featured a combined 53 fouls, UW-Whitewater shot 18-of-26 from the free throw line. The Panthers (6-0) made 28-of-38 from the line and hit 55.6 percent from the field, including 60 percent in the second half.

The Panthers made another run later in the period to lead 39-30 with 2:34 left, but UW-Whitewater tallied the final five points of the half, including a tip-in by White in the waning seconds, to cut its deficit to 42-40 heading into the locker room.

The Warhawks took a 45-44 just under two minutes into the second half on a 3-pointer by Guske, but Davenport took the lead for good on the ensuing possession and led 57-47 by the 12:58 mark of the half.
