Women's Basketball This Week: Warhawks Prepare for Two More WIAC Match-Ups

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team will head into this week with an 8-10 record and two league match-ups on the docket.

The Warhawks, 3-6 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, will look to bounce back from two conference losses last week with games against UW-Platteville Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Whitewater and at UW-La Crosse at 3 p.m. Saturday.

UW-Whitewater sits among the top half of the conference in numerous statistical categories including scoring offense (67.3), free-throw percentage (.727 - second best in the league), field goal percentage (.409) and three-point field goal percentage (.322).

Freshman guard Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater/Whitewater) leads the Warhawks averaging 10.7 points per game, 12th best in the league. Junior shooting guard Abbie Reeves (Salem/Westosha Central) adds 10.4 points per game and leads the WIAC with 40 three-pointers this season.

Last Week
UW-Whitewater opened the week on the road in Stevens Point. The Warhawks fell to the Pointers 67-48 Wednesday. The fouls were lopsided in the game to the disadvantage of UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks were whistled on 23 occasions leading to 34 free-throw attempts for the Pointers. UW-SP connected on 27 of those opportunities. The Pointers were called on just 10 fouls in the game and UW-Whitewater made five of their seven free-throw attempts.

The Warhawks rallied to a near comeback against one of the league's top squads Saturday in Kachel Gym despite losing the WIAC's third best rebounder to injury prior to the game. The Warhawks won the turnover battle outscoring UW-Superior 24-14 on points off miscues but fell short of the comeback 68-65.
