WHITEWATER – The second-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team won a pair of dual matches Saturday at the Rocky Rococo Border Brawl Duals at Kachel Fieldhouse.
 
The Warhawks (14-1 overall) downed Concordia (Wis.) 32-12 to start the day before shutting out North Central (Ill.) 38-0 to close the tournament.
 
Seniors Anthony Edgren (New Lisbon/New Lisbon), Elroy Perkin (Greenfield/Whitnall), juniors Matt Adcock (Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park), Tom Gerszewski (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South), Shane Siefert (Mundelein, IL/Carmel) and sophomore Zac Denny (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) each recorded two wins to lead UW-Whitewater for the day.
 
Against Concordia (4-3), the Warhawks won five of the first six matches and the final two.
 
Edgren, ranked eighth at 285 pounds by both the National Wrestling Coaches Association and D3wrestle.com, earned the lone fall of the match, pinning Paul Carter in the first period (2:26).
 
Denny, Adcock, Perkin and Siefert all earned technical falls in the match. Denny defeated Max Riederer 24-8 at 125 pounds, followed by Adcock, who downed Joshua Curcio 19-4 at 141. Adcock is ranked 10th by the NWCA and eighth by D3wrestle.com.
 
Perkin, No. 4 according to the NWCA and No. 3 in the D3wrestle.com rankings at 149, shut out Quentin Lueck 17-0. Siefert, the nation's consensus No. 1 at 197 pounds, took down ninth-ranked Jake Reuteler 19-3.
 
Gerszewski, 10th by the NWCA and ninth by D3wrestle.com at 157, earned a 12-6 decision against Pierce Holtfreter. Senior Tyler Becker (Ingleside, Ill./Grant) was also a winner for UW-Whitewater with a 6-5 decision over Casey Kenealy at 165 pounds.
 
In the match against North Central (5-5), the Warhawks didn't drop a weight class.
 
Siefert and freshman Connor Price (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) picked up falls to lead UW-Whitewater. Siefert pinned Filiberto Diaz-Duran at 197 pounds in 4:09, while Price downed Eric Kirkman in just under five minutes at 165.
 
Perkin (149 pounds) and freshman Austin Quartullo (Muskego, Wis./Muskego), competing at 133, each recorded major decisions. Perkin defeated Nathan Segal 14-3, and Quartullo shut out Brandon Malone 11-0.
 
The Warhawks compete next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31, in the Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational. Competition begins at 11 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
