DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team improved to 10-2 on the season as it blanked Dubuque, 41-0, Thursday night. UW-W earned its biggest win of the season by tallying two pins and a pair of technical falls.
Zach Denny opened the night at the 125 class with a 6-3 victory. Scott Pruett followed with a 9-4 victory of his own in the 133 class to put the Warhawks up 6-0.
Matt Adcock (Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park) (141) worked for his win, leaving the mat with a 7-4 victory in overtime.
Eighth-ranked
Elroy Perkin (Greenfield/Whitnall) earned his first pin of the year at 149 pounds stopping the clock at 4:09.
Tom Gerszewski (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) followed in the 157 pound bout with a pin of his own in 1:18 to put UW-W up 21-0.
Third-ranked,
Cedric Gibson (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield North) took his bout in the 165 class 8-5 to add three more points to the Warhawk tally. Following was
Jordan Newman (Blaine, MN/St. John's Military Academy) in the 174 pound weight class. Newman battled through his match but came away with the 6-5 win.
Ryan Aprahamian (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) defeated his opponent by major decision in the 184 class, 11-0, to earn four more points for UW-W while top-ranked
Shane Siefert (Mundelein, IL/Carmel) (197) earned a 16-1 technical fall in the first period. In the 285 class, third-ranked
Anthony Edgren (New Lisbon/New Lisbon) earned five points as well, defeating his opponent 16-1.
The Warhawks will travel to Kearney, Nebraska where they will take part in the Midwest Duals Saturday with the first bout scheduled for 9:00 am.
