Byron Balkin (Madison/Memorial) and
Mitch Osborne (Crystal Lake, IL/Central), the number one seeded doubles team at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championship, advanced to the third round Friday in St. Peter, Minnesota. The duo defeated Michael Cole and Martin Dluhos of Grinnell 8-6. They will play Grant Leisner and Bradley Entwistle of Gustavus Adolphus Saturday at 2:00 pm.

Balkin also advanced to the round of 16 on the singles side. After a first round bye Balkin defeated Florent Marco of UW-Eau Claire 6-1, 7-6 (4) and Peter Stadum of UW-La Crosse 6-3, 6-4. He will play Tyler Johnson of Gustavus on Saturday at 9:00 am.
Andy McGlashen (Southampton, England/) is also in the round of 16 after two wins Friday. McGlashen, who also earned a first round bye, took down Aaron Lapkin of Grinnell 6-2, 6-1 and Daniel Pomeranc of Gustavus 6-3, 6-2. McGlashen will face Jeff Lotz of Carthage on Saturday at 9:00 am.
On the doubles side the Warhawks had another pair competing,
Andrew Bayliss (Sheboygan/North) and McGlashen, but they fell in the second round to Brooks Stapleton and Ryan Hallsten of Gustavus 8-6.
UW-W had eight others competing in the singles bracket.
Ethan Niquet (Waukesha/Marquette), Bayliss and Osborne all lost in the third round,
Brady Porter (Madison/Memorial) and
Brian Klein (Brookfield/East) lost in the second round and
Cameron Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South),
Erik Scanlan (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) and
RJ Rademacher (Deephaven, MN/Minnetonka) were all bounced in the first round.
Osborne took second seeded Chris Kuna of UW-Eau Claire to three sets but failed to pull off the upset.
Competition will continue on Saturday and conclude on Sunday. The championship features the top 18 teams in the region with the winning singles player and doubles team advancing to the ITA National Small College Championships at Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama from October 13-16.
