Box Score UW-Whitewater came back from an eighteen point deficit in the first half, and fifteen points back in the second, before falling to UW-La Crosse 71-68 in overtime at Mitchell Hall in La Crosse, Wisconsin Wednesday night.

To start the first half, senior center Kassie Robinson scored six quick points to give the Eagles an 8-2 lead with 16:40 on the clock. A basket by junior center Steph Glynn kept Whitewater within four, 10-6, at the 14:57 mark. Six points by senior center
Cortney Kumerow (Bartlett, IL/South Elgin) had Whitewater within three with 9:46 left, 17-14. At 8:03 sophomore guard
Mary Merg (Greendale/Greendale) hit two free throws to keep the Warhawks within three, 21-18. La Crosse closed the half with a 14-2 run for a 38-22 halftime lead.
UW-L shot 52% from the floor in the first half, while Whitewater shot 28% including 0-3 from the 3-point range. La Crosse also enjoyed 23-13 rebound advantage. Kumerow led both teams with 10 points in the first half.
With the score 43-27 at 14:34, Whitewater cut the deficit to 43-39 with twelve straight points and the clock showing 9:47. Sophomore guard
Mary Merg (Greendale/Greendale)'s three pointer at 4:18 put UW-W in front 52-49. Other than a 52-52 tie, Whitewater held the lead until senior center Kassie Robinson's three point play put the Eagles up 58-56 with :06 left. Sophomore point guard
Kaitlyn Thill (Belgium/Ozaukee) was fouled coming up court, then stepped to the line to hit two free throws to send the game into overtime.
A three point lead by UW-L was the largest margin either team could muster in overtime. Senior forward
Chantel Burg (Hartford/Hartford Union)'s layup with 12 seconds left pulled UW-W within 69-68, but senior guard
Leah Harms made one of two free throws for a 70-68 lead, and she rebounded her own missed second attempt, was fouled, and again made the first of two for a 71-68 La Crosse lead, and the Eagles again grabbed the offensive board. UW-L got off three more shots, but more important, rebounded the miss each time to run out the clock.
La Crosse went 23-38 from the free throw line, Whitewater 19-23. The Eagles also had a 47-36 rebound advantage.
Kumerow led UW-W with 18 points, her season high. Merg chipped in with 17, and Burg compiled a double double with 14 points and ten rebounds -- while also leading both teams with eight steals and five assists. Robinson topped all scorers with 19 points, hitting 7-10 from the line. Junior guard Briana Radowicz scored 11, and Harms added ten. Junior forward Katie Ehlen had a game high 13 rebounds for UW-L.
With the loss, Whitewater drops to 6-2 overall, 1-1 in WIAC. La Crosse improved their record to 6-2 overall, 1-1 in the WIAC.
The Warhawks will travel to UW- Eau Claire Saturday, December 3 to face the Blugolds for a 3:00 pm tipoff. UW-W will host UW-Stevens Point Wednesday, December 14 for a Whiteout Night with a 7:00 pm start.
