Warhawks Fall to Unbeaten Pointers

Box Score The Warhawk women's basketball team fell to the seventh-ranked UW-Stevens Point Pointers 71-50 Wednesday night in Kachel Gym in Whitewater, Wisconsin to move to 6-3 overall and 1-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Stevens Point improves to 9-0 and 3-0 in league play.

There was a figurative lid on the basket for the Warhawks in the first half as more than nine minutes elapsed before UW-W put points on the board. Mary Merg (Greendale/Greendale) posted a jumper at 11:11 for the first Warhawk score of the game down 16-2. The Pointers' largest lead in the half was 24 after a seven point run made the score 34-10 with 3:56 left in the half. Whitewater finished the half on an 8-4 run to go into the lockerroom with a 38-18 deficit.

UW-SP scored 19 points off turnovers to just two for UW-W in the first twenty minutes. The Warhawks shot just 22% (6-27) from the floor in the first half to Point's 48% (15-31).

Whitewater brought the score to within 15, 38-53, in the second half but the Pointers never allowed the game back into single digits.

UW-W almost doubled their shooting percentage from the first half going 12-28 (43%) in the second twenty minutes while holding Stevens Point to 35% from the floor.

Emily Bestor (North Fond du Lac/Horace Mann) led Whitewater with 17 points including five three pointers. Cortney Kumerow (Bartlett, IL/South Elgin) grabbed six boards to lead the Warhawks.

Four Pointers posted double digits in scoring led by Sam Barber's 17. Teammates Cassie Bandow, Brooke Allen and Alyssa Olp added 13, 11, and 10 respectively. Myranda Tyler recorded 11 rebounds to lead all players.

The Warhawks will travel to Austin, Texas over Christmas break to take on Concordia University (TX) Thursday, December 29 and East Texas Baptist University Friday, December 30.
