UW-Whitewater wrestling coach Tim Fader knows that pushing his team against the best competition pays dividends in February and March. That philosophy was in evidence Sunday, as the Warhawks traveled to Madison for three matches. UW-W, ranked 18th in the Division III poll, lost to the number one ranked in Division III, Wartburg College 33-6; fell to the Division I Badgers 39-3, and wrapped up the day with a 29-18 win over Loras College.
In the Wartburg match four of Whitewater's eight losses were by three points or less. Wartburg's lineup is filled with wrestlers ranked in the NWCA III ratings. Thomas Mirocha is #3 at 133, Landon Williams is #3 at 165, Bradley Banks is #2 at 174, and Byron Tate is #1 at 197. Cory Schmidt at 157 and
Corey Anderson (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) at 285 provided the points with decisions against Wartburg.
The Warhawks had a one point, a two point, and a three point loss facing UW-Madison opponents. Another Corey/Cory,
Corey Meyer (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove), earned a decision at 133 against the Badgers.
Kyle Logsdon (Rockford, IL/Rockford East) at 141 and
Reid Dickerson (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) at 174 won by falls versus Loras, and Anderson won by technical fall.
