UW-W senior center Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville) joined the 1,000 point club in the Warhawks 69-53 win over UW-Stout Saturday night on Alumni Night in Kachel Gym of Williams Center. Dianne Jones, who directed the Warhawks to 229 wins in thirteen years, was honored at a halftime ceremony.

Thompson, senior from Belleville, scored the first basket of the game, a layup at 19:18, to reach 1,000 points. She is the eleventh player in UW-W women's basketball history to reach the mark, and just the fifth to combine 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Tiffany Morton (2006-2009) was the latest with 1,215 points and 740 rebounds. The others, with their numbers, were Lindsey Buechner (2004-2008, 1,205, 665), DeAnne Lehman (1984-88, 1,050, 505) and Diane Morales (1975-79, 1038, 752).
Thompson's basket was part of a 12-2 game opening run by the Warhawks, who eventually built a 24-8 lead with 9:56 left in the half Stout cut the deficit to nine points, twice, but UW-W went into intermission leading 38-22.
Stout turned the ball over 19 times in the first half, and Whitewater was 8-12 from the line while UW-S was just 2-2. Thompson and sophomore forward Cortney Kumerow led all scorers with ten points each.
Stout inched back to within twelve, 60-48, with 5:33 left in the game, but that was as close as the Blue Devils would get as both teams scored 31 points in the final twenty minutes and the halftime margin stood up.
The Blue Devils wound up with 33 turnovers, and Whitewater's final margin at the free throw line was eight (14-21 to 6-8).
Thompson wound up with 19 points to lead both teams, hitting 8-11 from the floor. Kumerow was the only other Warhawk scoring in double figures with 12. Freshman point guard Kaitlyn Thill (Belgium/Ozaukee) was the game leader with seven steals and five assists, and just one turnover in 29 minutes.
Whitewater is 16-3 overall and 8-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Warhawks will host UW-La Crosse Wednesday, February 2 at 7:00 in Kachel Gym in Williams Center. UW-Stout is 7-13 and 2-9 in the WIAC.
