Just one more reason to dislike that four+ hour bus ride to River Falls. UW-Whitewater traveled north to UW-River Falls Saturday and caught (a) cold, falling to to the Falcons 64-48.
box score
River Falls held a 26-22 lead at halftime. Neither team seemed to be able to score, Whitewater going 1-9 from the arc and River Falls 0-5. And neither team got to the line to move the scoreboard, Whitewater 1-2 and River Falls 2-3. The first half scoring centered (pun intended) on Whitewater's
Cortney Kumerow (Bartlett, IL/South Elgin), 5-6 from the field for 10 points with five rebounds, and the Falcons' Maranda Dohrn, 5-6 and 2-2 from the line for 12 points with five rebounds.
UW-W pushed in front 35-34 at 14:07, but the Falcons answered with a 14-3 run to take a 48-37 lead and it was a double digit lead the rest of the way. Whitewater was within ten at 50-40 at 6:58 on a
Nicole Bundy (Fredonia/Ozaukee) three, but UW-RF eventually built a nineteen point lead, 64-45 with 0:37 left as UW-W was forced to shoot threes to catch up.
The Warhawks shot 16% from three point range (3-19), their lowest percentage from beyond the arc this season. The three 3's made ties for a season low, and the result, 48 points, is also a season low.
Bundy led the Warhawks with 15 points, making all three of Whitewater's three point shots. Kumerow ended up with ten points and a team high seven rebounds. Bundy was the game leader with five steals and
Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) dished out three assists. Dohrn led UW-RF with 18 points, with freshman guard Brittany Gregorich adding 14. Taylor House led the Falcons with nine rebounds and Tiffany Gregorich passed for five assists.
UW-W is 15-6 overall and 8-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-RF is 17-4 and 9-4 in league play.
Whitewater will return to Kachel Gym in the Williams Center to host UW-Platteville Wednesday at 7:00 for Fuddrucker's Youth Basketball Night.
