With their 62-50 win at UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night at Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh the Warhawks are in a unique position. UW-W, ranked ninth in the D3hoops.com national poll, can clinch the WIAC title with a win over UW-Superior at Kachel Gym in Williams Center Saturday afternoon. What makes that special, in addition to clinching at home, is that both UW-W basketball teams can win league titles at home Saturday.

UW-W jumped in front quickly, leading 11-2 at 13:32. With a 19-13 lead at 5:47, the Warhawks held UW-Oshkosh scoreless the rest of the half while scoring thirteen to lead 32-13 going in to the locker room. Oshkosh was just 6-27 from the floor, including 0-6 from beyond the arc, and 1-3 from the line in the first twenty minutes. Whitewater made 64% of its field goals in the half.
Whitewater led by as many as 23 points, 54-31 with 6:47 left. The closest the Titans would get was the final margin, twelve points.
Whitewater shot 58% from the floor for the game while Oshkosh was limited to 36%. The Warhawks also compiled a 33-23 rebound advantage.
Junior forward
Chris Vines (Milwaukee/Washington) led UW-W in scoring, a first this year, with 13 points. Junior guard #D.J. Dantzler
added 12 and junior guard (Greendale/Greendale)Phil Negri# ten. Negri and
Nolan Free (Sheboygan/North) led UW-W with four assists apiece, with Negri topping the team with three steals.
Dustin Mitchell (Lac Du Flambeau/Lakeland) and
Alex Edmunds (Cedarburg/) each had seven rebounds to top the Warhawks.
Oshkosh senior forward D.J. Marsh led all scorers with 17 points, but he was the only Titan in double figures. He also led his team with five rebounds, while guard Cory Wittwer led UW-O with three assists.
UW-W improved to 20-4 overall and 12-3 in the WIAC, while Oshkosh is 10-14 and 5-11.
The Warhawks will conclude their regular season against UW-Superior in Kachel Gymnasium in Williams Center, Whitewater for a 3:00pm tip-off. The WIAC tournament begins play Tuesday, but the Warhawks are assured of a first round bye. UW-W will host a second round game Thursday, February 25 at 7:00.
