UW-Stevens Point, ranked eighteenth, defeated fifteenth ranked UW-Whitewater 83-69 in Kachel Gym in Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin Wednesday night.

Shooting 58%, including 4-7 from beyond the arc, UW-SP led 36-28 at the half, with senior forward Britta Petersen scoring more than a fourth of her team's points, with 10.
Point edged the margin up to eleven, 42-31 at 17:47, when Whitewater came back with a 7-0 run in 1:05 to cut the lead to 42-38 with 16:34 on the clock. The Pointers answered with a duplicate 7-0 spurt to build the lead back to 49-38 at 13:40. UW-W was within nine, 63-54 with 6:52 left when the Pointers used a 6-0 string to build a 15 point margin, their largest lead. After trading baskets, Whitewater went 6-0 to cut the deficit to 71-62 with 3:45 left Whitewater also had the margin at nine 76-67 with 1:31 left, but UW-SP closed out the game with a 7-2 advantage.
The Pointers shot 54% in game, while going 7-4 beyond the arc, compared to the Warhawks 43% and 3-14 beyond the arc. It was a physical game, both teams combined for 44 fouls, 20 for UW-SP and 24 for UW-W.
The Pointers Peterson had a game high 24 points, shooting 10-13 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. Sam Barber also helped by adding 11 points. Peterson also contributed four assists and four steals. Point guard Andrea Flease led the Pointers with six assists.
Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville) recorded a double-double for the Warhawks, scoring 19 points with 10 rebounds, also leading the team with three assists. Three other Warhawks reached double-digit points;
Kaitlyn Thill (Belgium/Ozaukee) with 14,
Chantel Burg (Hartford/Hartford Union) with 12 and
Jamie Swanson (Fox Lake, IL/Grant Community) with 10. Thill took game honors with seven steals. Seven games in to the 2010-2011 season Thill is one steal shy of tying for 30th place in the school record book with 44 steals in a season.
Whitewater, 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, will face UW-Superior this Saturday in Superior, tipoff at 3 p.m.
UW-Stevens Point is 7-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.
