The UW-Whitewater women's basketball team, ranked sixth and seventh in two national polls, lost their first game of the season to UW-Stout 65-54.

The Blue Devils jumped out to quick lead, going up by six twice in the first half. With 16:30 left in the half, a second chance layup gave Stout a 11-5 lead. The Warhawks battled back to within one but the Blue Devils again extended their lead to six, 16-10, at 11:41 left on a three-pointer by Kim Stokke. Stout took their largest lead of the game with just 5:44 left in the half 27-15. Whitewater mounted a fight back and cut their deficit in half on a three-pointer by
Emily Bestor (North Fond du Lac/Horace Mann) to head into the locker room down six 33-27.
The Warhawks were able to cut the Blue Devil to four twice in the second half at 6:36 and 3:55 left in the half. Stout constantly kept the pressure on and never relinquished their lead to upset Whitewater 65-54.
UW-W shot just 30% from the field to Stout's 38%. The Blue Devils outrebounded the Warhawks 47-34 with 18 of their 47 rebounds coming on the offensive boards. Stout, with 18, also dished out ten more assists than did UW-W.
Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe) was the only Warhawk scorer in double figures with 11 as she also tied
Chantel Burg (Hartford/Hartford Union) for the team high rebounding total with five.
Nicole Bundy (Fredonia/Ozaukee) added nine points and three steals.
Stout's Julia Hirssig recorded a double-double with scoring and rebounding game highs of 18 and 12. Stokke added 13 points to the Blue Devil total and dished out a game high six assists.
The Warhawks have two more games in Wisconsin at UW-Stevens Point Wednesday, December 9 at 7 p.m. and at UW-Superior Saturday, December 12 at 1 p.m. before heading to the Las Vegas Hoopla December 18-19. Whitewater will return to the Kachel Gymnasium for Parents' Night against Illinois Wesleyan Friday, January 2 at 7 p.m.
