UW-Whitewater never trailed in Saturday's 86-65 win at UW-Superior to improve to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The game was tied 9-9 at 15:02, and then the Warhawks went on an 11-0 run for a 20-9 lead at 10:21. Cortney Kumerow (Bartlett, IL/South Elgin) made a layup and free throw after a foul to make it 29-19 lead. UW-W never let Superior get under double digits the rest of the way.
Whitewater led 45-31 at halftime. Superior had the margin down to 12 points twice in the second half, but a layup by Melissa Olsen (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago Community) at 7:04 gave UW-W 73-53 lead and the twenty point differential, as many as 23, held the rest of the way.
Whitewater host 54% from the field, while limiting Superior to 37%. The Warhawks needed that edge because 17-23 from the free throw line and Whitewater made 5-8. Both teams shot well from beyond the arc, Superior hitting 50% (10-20) and Whitewater 42% (9-22). Whitewater forced 22 turnovers and committed 16.
Senior point guard Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe) led UW-W with 24 points. Hendrickson hit 10-16 shots from the field and 4-6 from three point range. Senior wing Nicole Bundy (Fredonia/Ozaukee) added 18, and Kumerow 16 with 7-9 shooting. Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) dished out six assists, Chantel Burg (Hartford/Hartford Union) eight boards, and Hendrickson three steals to lead the team.
The Yellowjackets were led by Katie Zavodny's 15 points. Kelsey Thingvold added 12, and Connie Urmanski and Haley Hart scored 11 apiece. Urmanski led UW-S with five assists.
Superior is now 4-5 overall and 0-4 in the WIAC.
UW-Whitewater will leave the frozen north behind and travel to Las Vegas to face the University of Scranton December 18 and Southwestern University December 19.
