The Warhawks took the lead in the first few seconds of the game with
Dustin Mitchell (Lac Du Flambeau/Lakeland) scoring at 19:47, adding three more baskets in the next three minutes. The teams battled back and forth for a short period of time, until the Warhawks increased their margin throughout the half. The margin never dropped below ten points the entire first half. The half ended with a score 38-52.
Whitewater kept a strong lead into the second half, while holding the Yellowjackets to 38 points until the seventeen minute marker. Warhawks built on their lead, finishing the second half with a point differential of twenty; which happened to be their lowest margin.
Whitewater's shooting percentage for the game was at a high of 59% (35-59) with the Yellowjackets shooting 47% (29-62). Though the Warhawks led in field goal percentage, Superior's free throw percentage crushed the Warhawks with a 77% (10-13) standing against our 58% (15-26).
Nolan Free (Sheboygan/North) led both teams with 19 points and
Dustin Mitchell (Lac Du Flambeau/Lakeland) added 18.
Alex Edmunds (Cedarburg/Cedarburg) contributed to the game highs with 13 points and 8 total rebounds.
Phil Negri (Minocgua/Lakeland) once again dished out 5 assists, along with
DJ Dantzler (Joliet, IL/Joilet Township West) both contributing to game high honors in assists, now led by three team members. The Yellowjackets were led by Smith's 16, with Hill chipping in 12 and Aalfs 10.
UW-Whitewater improved to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Yellowjackets are 4-3 and 1-2.
The Warhawks will travel to Waukesha to take on Carroll University Pioneers Wednesday, December 16th with a scheduled start 7:00 p.m.
