The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team wrapped up their tour of Iowa with an 83-70 win over Simpson College in the Simpson Classic in Indianola, Iowa Saturday. UW-W, 4-0 and ranked ninth in the national Division III poll, has played all four of its games in Iowa.

Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe), with two threes and a layup, helped UW-W jump out front early, opening a 17-4 with 16:18 left in the first half. Just over ten minutes later Simpson had the margin down to three points, 31-28 at 5:24 and 33-30 at 3:27. Whitewater led 40-32 at the half.

Two minutes into the second half UW-W tore off another run, 11-1, to take a 51-37 at 16:01. Simpson responded with a 9-0 run to cut the margin to 56-54 with 9:50 left in the game. The see saw teetered the other way with UW-W's 8-0 streak for a 69-59 bulge at 5:18. Other than one basket the lead stayed in double figures in Whitewater's favor the rest of the way.

Whitewater had their shooting eye in focus, hitting 53% from the field, and 53% from three point range (10-19). The Warhawks won the battle on the boards 34-24.

Four Warhawks scored in double figures, led by 23 from senior guard Nicole Bundy (Fredonia/Ozaukee), hitting 5-6 threes and 4-4 free throws. Senior center Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville) added 15, senior guard Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) 13, and sophomore forward Chantel Burg (Hartford/Hartford Union) 11. Thompson led the Warhawks with eight rebounds, Hendrickson had six assists and a team season high seven steals.

Sophomore center Stacey Schutjer led the Storm with 21 points. Senior guard Katie Kitzman chipped in with 12 points and senior guard Emily Smith 11. Smith and Kitzman led their team with four steals apiece. Jessic Fraser led Simpson with six boards, Darrina Bledsoe dished out five assists.

UW-W will finally leave Iowa to open their home schedule, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season, hosting UW-La Crosse December 2 at 7:00.
