Six Warhawks in Double Figures, Defeat Aurora

It wasn't so much that Dustin Mitchell (Lac Du Flambeau/Lakeland) had a bad game, just that his teammates gave him lots of help Saturday in an 89-83 win over Aurora University in the Carthage Classic in Kenosha Saturday night.

Six Warhawks scored in double figures.  Mitchell, UW-W's senior center, contributed a double double, with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Guard Phil Negri (Minocgua/Lakeland) led the Warhawks with 19 points, hitting 6-8 from the field -- all from three point range.  DJ Dantzler (Joliet, IL/Joilet Township West) and Alex Edmunds (Cedarburg/Cedarburg) joined Mitchell with 12 points, and Chris Vines (Milwaukee/Washington) got ten on 5-7 shooting.

UW-Whitewater led the entire game.  The Warhawks had a twenty=plus point lead seven times in the first half.  UW-W led 48-30 at the half.  UW-W still led by 25, 76-51 with 9:45 left in the game.  Aurora outscored the Warhawks 16-4 over the next four minutes to cut the lead to 80-67.  At 4:22 AU's Lance Robinson made a three-pointer to cut the lead to single digits, 81-72.  A layup by Anthony Boykins with 0:29 left made it 87-82, but that would be as close as it would get.

Aurora had four players in double figures, led by Robinson's 18.  Shane Rowland and Boykins 15, and Skyler Ormsbee 14.  Ormsbee led AU with eight boards and Robinson dished out six assists.

Negri had five assists to lead the Warhawks.

UW-W, 2-0 and ranked thirteenth in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, will host the Commercial Bank Thanksgiving Classic Friday-Saturday, November 27-28.  Aurora will play Grinnell College at 5:00 Friday, followed by Whitewater versus Loras at 7:00.  Saturday Aurora will play Loras at 3:00 and UW-W will host Grinnell at 5:00 in Kachel Gym of Wiliams Center.  Prior to the Classic, UW-W will play at Wisconsin Lutheran College Tuesday night.
