Against top-ranked Wartburg (Iowa), he posted a 6-1 decision over Bryan Levsen, who is ranked eighth in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and seventh by D3wrestle.com. Newman pinned Brian Cristion, ranked sixth by D3wrestle.com, at 2:06 to help UW-Whitewater collect a 25-19 victory over No. 20 Cornell (Iowa). He capped the day with a 12-0 major decision over Ricky Briggs of No. 7 Concordia (Minn.). For the season, Newman, ranked No. 1 in the nation by D3wrestle.com and No. 3 by the NWCA, owns a 7-1 record with three pins.
