Coppage Earns AFCA All-America Honors

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior running back Levell Coppage (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park) has been named to the American Football Coaches Association Division III All-America Team for the second time.   The AFCA team is highly selective, with member coaches only choosing a first team, honoring the top twenty-six players (including specialists) in Division III.

Coppage has rushed for 2,029 yards this season, 144.9 yards per game and 5.8 per carry.  He has scored 27 touchdowns, and added 11 receptions along with serving as the team's kick and punt returner.

Coppage is the first back in UW-Whitewater and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history with three 2,000+ rushing seasons, and the first to compile four 1,000+ seasons.  He has rushed for 7,704 yards in his career, the second highest total in NCAA III history, and the third largest total ever in NCAA football at any level.  He has rushed for 108 touchdowns, also second on the NCAA career list.

Coppage has earned First Team All-WIAC honors all four years, adding league Player of the Year honors in 2010 and 2011.  As a freshman he was a D3football.com Third Team All-American, and in 2009 he earned D3football.com First Team and Associated Press College Division Second Team honors.  Last year, as a junior, he was D3football.com First Team and AP College Division Second Team.

Coppage's contributions have helped UW-Whitewater win four consecutive WIAC championships.  The Warhawks have advanced through four rounds of national playoffs to reach the Division III title game, the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, all four years.  Whitewater and Coppage won the national title in 2009 and 2010.  UW-W, 14-0, will meet the University of Mount Union, 14-0, in the 2011 Stagg Bowl Friday, December 16 at Salem Stadium in Salem, Virginia.

Coppage and his teammates have rolled up a 44 game win streak, the longest active streak in college football.  That string is also the fifth longest in NCAA football history, any division or level.
