Miller PQ's and Warhawks Second in Quad

Jordan Miller (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah)'s NCAA III provisional qualifying mark in the weight throw highlighted UW-Whitewater's second place finish in a quadrangular meet hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Illinois Saturday. North Central College, ranked first in Division III dual meet strength, won the meet with 236.5 points, followed by UW-W, second in the same national ratings, 146.5, Loras College 90, and Aurora University 67.

Miller won the weight throw with his mark of 58-5.75. Teammate Dave Johnson (Waukesha/North) finished third in the same event at 48-11. Mathias Werve (Kenosha/Tremper) added first place points in the 800 with his team season best time of 1:57.40, just ahead of Whitewater's Joe Dixon (Milwaukee/Rufus King) in second at 1:57.83.

Warhawk entrants in the 60 produced the largest number of points for UW-W, finishing 1-2-3-4. Dylan Crafton (Milwaukee/Wauwatosa West) won the 60 in 6.98, followed by Nick Bee (Elgin, IL/Larkin) at 7.00, C.J. Miller (Verona/Verona Area) 7.10, and Zac Moeller (Port Washington/Port Washington)'s 7.18. The Whitewater 200 contingent almost duplicated that feat, with Crafton's second place in a team season best 22.28, leading teammates across in places 3-4-5. Matt Santas (Beloit/Turner) was timed in 22.68, Dave Kuczynski (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) in 22.92, and Luke Wenham (Little Chute/Little Chute) in 23.0. UW-W also accumulated points in the high jump where Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) finished second at 6-5, the best mark on the team this season, with teammates Beau Hering (Lake Mills/Lake Mills), Travis Morehouse (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove), and Tom Fisher (Green Bay/East) all tied for third place at 6-3.25. Pete Schroeder finished third in the 400 with his time of 50.6, with Tim Prelletz (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge) in fourth 50.88 and Jared Denu (Waunakee/Waunakee) fifth in 51.02.

Other top performances for UW-W included Kevin Buntman (Green Bay/Bay Port)'s second in the mile (4:23.0), Cody Speaker (Janesville/Parker) placing fourth in the pole vault (14-1.25), Cody Cassidy (Rochelle, IL/Township) coming in third in the long jump (20-9.75), and Tom Fischer's second in the triple jump (42-4.0).  Ben Watson (Waukesha/North) placed third in the shot put (47-11), with Miller adding a fourth in the shot (46-0.5) to his weight throw win.

UW-W will host the Leonard "Squig" Converse Invitational Friday, February 3 at 5:00 pm in Kachel Fieldhouse.
