D'Acquisto Leads Wrestlers in Tourney

Jake D'Acquisto and his third place finish at 165 pounds led UW-Whitewater at the Blugold Invite in Eau Claire Saturday.  UW-W placed eighth in the thirteen team field.

Team scores were Augsburg College 221, UW-La Crosse 149.5, UW-Parkside 126, Saint John's (MN) 109, Jamestown College 79, Luther College 78, UW-W 67, UW-Eau Claire 66.5, Ridgewater Community College 65, North Central College (IL) 60, Winona State 14, and Itasca Community College 13.

D'Acquisto went 5-2 in the tourney, including a pin, a technical fall and a major decision. He is 16-14 this season.   The pin, in 1:46, against James Dederich of UW-Oshkosh in the quarterfinals, was D'Acquisto's fastest of the season.

Kyle Wachholder (Salem/Westosha Central) also placed, finishing fourth at 133.  He was 2-2 in the meet, including a 15-0 technical fall.  Wachholder is 21-12.

Reid Dickerson (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) earned a fifth place finish at 174, going 4-1 to up his season record to 21-17.

Matt Schuck (Burlington/Burlington Catholic Central) also got on to the awards stand, finishing sixth at 149.  He came back from a first round loss to rack up four straight wins before his final match of the day.  His four wins includinig two pins, both under three minutes, and two major decisions.  Schuck raised his season mark to 17-16.

Other Warhawks who contributed team points were Adam Spatchek (Reedsville/Reedsville) at 149, Corey Schmidt (Homewood, IL/Homewood Flossmoor) at 157, Adam Zeh (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East) at 165, Andrew Pettit (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) at 174, and Jon Schmidt (Menomonee Falls/Hartford) and Nick Gibson (Milton/Milton) at 285.  Schmidt recorded his fastest pin of the season, 1:05 in a second round match versus Charlie Gelhaye of Ridgewater.

UW-W's next meet, and their final home appearance of the season, will be Thursday, February 11 at 7:00 with UW-Platteville visiting Williams Center.
