UW-Whitewater Selections for All-WIAC Football Team

In recognition of an undefeated season and fifth consecutive conference championship, twenty members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team earned accolades from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the 2009 season.  Ten players were named First Team All-WIAC, five were picked on the second team, and three more were honorable mention selections.  Senior quarterback Jeff Donovan (Wauwatosa/East) was named the WIAC Football Player of the Year, senior fullback Max Wasikowski (Cudahy/Cudahy) was UW-W's representative on the Sportsmanship Team, and head coach Lance Leipold was named Coach of the Year.

The Warhawk offense led the WIAC in almost every statistical category.  UW-W was number one in scoring, rushing, total offense, pass efficiency, first downs, third down conversions, fourth down conversions, and fewest sacks.

First Team Offense

Matt Weber (Oregon/Oregon) (So., OL, West Oregon) is a part of an offensive line that has helped to produce the top rushing offense (235 yards/game), top scoring offense (42 points/game), top total offense (500 yards/game) and the second ranked passing offense (268 yards/game) in the conference. The line is also first in sacks allowed (.3/game).

He was also named to the Honorable Mention Team in 2008.

 

Jeff Donovan (Wauwatosa/East) (Sr., QB, Waukesha West) has the best passing efficiency in the conference as well as a 73.2% completion rate, third in the nation. He has thrown for 2,447 yards with 20 touchdowns and four interceptions, averaging 244.7 yards/game. Donovan has thrown 37 TD's for fifth place on the UW-W career list. Donovan's 20 scoring tosses this season is tied for sixth in the UW-W record book. Donovan was named to the Second Team Offense in 2008.

 

Jeff Schebler (Davenport, IA/Assumption) (Sr., Kicker, Davenport, IA/Assumption) is the NCAA Division III all-time kick scoring record holder, currently with 427 points.  The all-time, all-division, NCAA record is 433 by Art Carmody of the University of Louisville (2004-2007).  Schebler has been named a Fred Mitchell Award finalist, one of fifteen, for September and October. Schebler has made 9 out of 10 field goals this season and is tied for second in field goals per game with 1.5. He is also third in the conference in scoring. Jeff Schebler (Davenport, IA/Assumption) has been named to the First Team Offense all four years of his career.

 

Levell Coppage (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park) (So., RB, Oak Park, IL) is the leading rusher in the conference averaging 143.4 rushing yards/game, ranked fourth in the nation. Coppage is the leader in all-purpose yards per game with 152.3 and first in the conference for points per game with 14.4. He has rushed for 1,448 and 24 touchdowns this season. He has moved in to seventh in the UW-W record book with 3,094 career rushing yards. Coppage has 45 career rushing TD's, breaking Justin Beaver's school career mark of 44 (2004-2007). He moved into second place in the WIAC career book, with 51 by Greg Corning of UW-River Falls (1994-97) number one. Coppage's season total of 24 TD's equals Beaver's 24 in 2005, which is the WIAC record.  Also, with 1,434 yards this season Coppage has climbed into eighth place at UW-W, with his own mark of 1,461 last year in seventh. He was named to the First Team Offense in 2008.

 

Aaron Rusch (Hartford/Hartford) (JR., WR, Hartford) is ninth in the conference with 4.4 receptions/game and ninth in the conference with 60.2 receiving yards/game. Rusch is also second with 9.59 yards/punt return. Aaron had 602 receiving yards and five touchdowns as well as one passing touchdown. He is in fourth place in the school career receiving yards category with 2,359, and is Whitewater's all-time leader in receptions with 170.  Named to the Second Team Offense in 2008.

Second Team Offense

Kris Rosholt (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) (So., Punter, Reedsburg) has punted for a total of 977 yards this season, averaging 39.1 yards a punt. He has no punts blocked. His longest this season was 53 yards. UW-W led the WIAC in net punting yardage.

Honorable Mention Offense

John Novak (Michigan City, IN/Michigan City) (Jr., TE, Michigan City, IN) had 17 catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns during the season. He averaged 8.5 yards a catch with a long of 21 yards.

Jordan Wells (Elgin, IL/Elgin) (Sr., WR, Elgin, IL) tied for seventh in the conference with 4.5 receptions/game as well as sixth in the conference with 65.8 receiving yards/game. Wells led the UW-Whitewater offense with 45 catches and eight touchdowns. He had 658 receiving yards while averaging 14.6 yards/catch with his longest catch being 77 yards.

 
UW-Whitewater's defense was number one in every meaningful team statistical category.  The Warhawks led the league in scoring, rushing, passing, total defense, opponent first downs, opponent third down conversion, opponent fourth down conversion, and red zone defense.

First Team Defense

Kyle Supianoski (Tama, IA/South) (Sr., LB, Tama, IA/South) Supianoski  led the UW-Whitewater defense with 43 total tackles, 25 solo tackles, one sack and one interception. He was named to the Second Team Defense in 2008.

 

Anthony White (Milwaukee/Bay View) (Sr., DL, Milwaukee/Bay View)  White had a total of 30 tackles, 21 solo tackles, and two sacks. He picked up a sack at La Crosse to move into a tie for fifth place on UW-W's career list, joining Marty Vosburg (1995-97), Jim Vogel (1977-78), and Nick Zolper (2001-2004) with 19. White was named to the First Team Defense in 2008.

 

Troney Shumpert (Milwaukee/Bay View) (Sr., DB, Milwaukee/Bay View) Shumpert was second on the UW-Whitewater defense with 38 total tackles, 30 solo tackles, one interception and one forced fumble.  Shumpert was named to the First Team Defense in 2008.

 
Second Team Defense

Lane Olson (Racine/Horlick) (Sr., LB, Racine/Horlick) Olson had 32 total tackles, 18 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

 

Jon Baldwin (Spring Grove, IL/Richmond Burton) (Jr., DL, Spring Grove, IL/Richmond Burton) Baldwin had 16.5 total tackles, 10 solo tackles, one forced fumble and a recovered fumble. He was named to the Second Team Defense in 2008.

 

Justin Ankley (Kenosha/Bradford) (Sr., DL, Racine/Case) Ankley had 19.5 total tackles, nine solo tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.

 

Paul Wick (Franklin/Franklin) (Sr., DB, Franklin) Wick was third on UW-Whitewater's defense with 33 total tackles, 22 solo tackles, and one interception. He was named to the Honorable Mention Defense in 2008. 

 

Honorable Mention Defense

Zach Christopherson (Hartford/Hartford) (Sr., DB, Hartford) is tied for tenth in the conference with .20 interceptions/game. He had 19.5 total tackles, 10 solo tackles and three interceptions.

 

WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team

Max Wasikowski (Cudahy/Cudahy) (Sr., RB, Cudahy) led the way as the fullback for the leading rushing offense, leading individual rusher in the conference as well as catching eight passes for 79 yards.

 

WIAC Player of the Year

Jeff Donovan (Wauwatosa/East)Ninth UW-W player to be selected as Player of the Year; last Player of the Year was Justin Beaver in 2007.

 

WIAC George Chryst Coach of the Year

Lance LeipoldFirst time WIAC Coach of the Year; Eighth time UW-W coach has been selected as Coach of the Year.
