Schaefer, Siemon, Rutkowski Players of the Week

Kalla Schaefer (Madison/Madison Memorial), Amy Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South), and Kelly Rutkowski (Waunakee/Waunakee) have all earned UW-W women's tennis players of the week honors.

Playing as singles, Kalla Schaefer (Madison/Madison Memorial), went 3-0 last week with three big road wins under tough conditions winning at UW- Steven's Point, UW- La Crosse, and UW- Eau Claire all in straight sets. On Wednesday, October 7, Schaefer beat Rachel Benn of Steven's Point 6-2, 6-1 at Steven's Point. On Friday, October 9, she beat Kelly Stadum of La Crosse 6-4, 6-2 in 45 degree weather and on Saturday, October 10 she beat Gina Dahl of Eau Claire 6-3, 6-4 at Eau Claire. With the wins Schaefer increased her record to 10-1 on the season for singles play. All three wins helped the Warhawks finish the conference season undefeated as a team.  Schaefer has also earned WIAC Athlete of the Week.

Playing as doubles, Amy Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) and Kelly Rutkowski (Waunakee/Waunakee) went 2-0 last week with a win at UW- La Crosse and at Edgewood College. The duo beat the #3 La Crosse doubles of Maruyama/McDonald 8-4 and beat the #2 Edgewood doubles of Ditzler/Storhoff. As a duo, they increased their record to 7-1 on the season.

The UW-Whitewater women's tennis team next competition is the WIAC Conference Championships hosted in Madison on Oct 23.
