A Janesville High School graduate, Lawrence won letters in football and track and was an all state football selection in his senior year. After two years of service in the Navy, he played professional football with Delavan and was all conference for three years.  At Whitewater he won two track letters and was all conference in football in 1946, 1951 and 1952. An exceptionally fine linebacker, he was chosen most valuable in 1952. After graduating in 1954 he began his teaching career, rising to his present position of principal. A highly regarded citizen of Cedarburg, he has been active in civic and church affairs as well as educational associations. Elected to the Hall of Fame in 1972.
