The No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team advanced to the NCAA Super Regional round for the first time since 2014 Monday with a 3-2 triumph over Coe (Iowa) in the championship game of the NCAA Whitewater Regional at van Steenderen Softball Complex.

With one out and one on in the top of the seventh and the Warhawks clinging to a 3-1 lead, the Kohawks' Marisa Repp drove a pitch deep to center field. Leaping at the wall, senior centerfielder Caitlin Catino (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) reached over and made the catch in the webbing of her glove to maintain the UW-Whitewater lead.

After Coe (28-14) plated a run after a walk and a base hit, junior Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) induced a fly ball to Catino in center for the final out of the game, sending the team to the Super Regional round.

The Warhawks (28-11-1) will visit Illinois Wesleyan Friday at 2 p.m. in the first game of a best-of-three series. The winner of the three-game set will head to the NCAA Championship round in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Following the conclusion of the game, Camardo was named the Regional's Most Outstanding Player, and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Catino, junior first baseman Molly Ethington (Rock Island, Ill./Alleman Catholic) and senior left fielder Mallory Klotz (New Berlin, Wis./West).

The Kohawks struck in the top of the second to take an early 1-0 lead before Catino drove a two-out, two-run double to left center to cap a seven-pitch at-bat and give UW-Whitewater a 2-1 advantage.

The Warhawks added an insurance run in the sixth as Catino doubled to right field to make it 3-1 heading to the seventh, when she made the spectacular catch in center.

Klotz finished 2-for-3 with one run scored to bring her career hits total to 230, tied for the most in program history.

Ethington reached base twice with one hit and one walk, and junior shortstop Emily Rux (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) contributed one hit and one run scored.
