Related Links:Box ScoreUW-Whitewater Regional Web Page WHITEWATER – The No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament Friday, defeating Edgewood 5-0 in a first round match at Wangerin Courts.
The Warhawks (22-7 overall) will take on 18th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) in the second round Saturday at 10 a.m. The Gusties have knocked UW-Whitewater out of the tournament in each of the last three seasons.
The Eagles conclude their season with a 16-11 record.
Senior captain
Cam Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South) and sophomore
Martin Beck (Minneapolis/South) started doubles on a high note for the Warhawks, recording an 8-1 victory at the second position. The No. 3 team of junior captain
Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) and sophomore
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) gave UW-Whitewater a 2-0 lead with an 8-1 triumph.
Senior
Ben Shklyar (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and junior
Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) combined for an 8-4 win at No. 1 to give the Warhawks a doubles sweep.
Laktash and Humphreys provided the final two points of the contest in singles play for the Warhawks. Laktash tallied a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the fifth slot, and Humphreys clinched the match for UW-Whitewater with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 1.
The Warhawks led all four unfinished singles contests by at least one set.
