The No. 22 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team suffered its first loss to an NCAA Division III opponent this season, falling 7-2 at 16th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus Saturday in St. Peter, Minn.

The Warhawks (9-4 overall), who had won nine straight matches entering play Saturday, took one doubles match and one singles contest.

The Gusties (6-5) rank fourth in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. UW-Whitewater is slotted seventh.

Junior
Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) led the Warhawks with victories over ranked opponents in both singles and doubles. He knocked off Motasem Al-Houni, No. 2 in the region and eighth in the nation, by a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 at the top singles position.

Humphreys also teamed with junior
Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) for an 8-4 triumph in doubles over Al-Houni and Andres Saenz, the No. 2 pair in the region and No. 6 in the country.

Two others pushed their singles contests to three sets.

Treis claimed the first set at No. 2 singles, but was outlasted 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 by Mohanad Al-Houni, ranked fourth in the region and 21st in NCAA Division III.

At the sixth slot, junior
Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist) won the first set but was defeated 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 by Gustavus' Zach Ekstein.

Senior captain
Cam Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South) pushed both of his sets to tiebreakers at No. 5, but was edged 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) by Mitch Elofson.

UW-Whitewater continues action next Sunday, March 15, against a pair of regionally ranked foes in No. 17 Carthage and No. 19 Augustana (Ill.). The Warhawks face Carthage at 1 p.m. and Augustana at 4 p.m. at Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville.
