Gymnasts Wrap-Up Regular Season with Win at Home

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team wrapped up the regular season and thanked the seniors with a 189.650-186.950 win over UW-Oshkosh Saturday evening. Five Warhawk gymnasts won individual events in the meet.

Sophomore Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) bolstered the Warhawks' vault total with a score of 9.725, the best in the meet and her second-best vault of the season. Freshman Chloe Rehberg (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) finished second with a score of 9.550. Warhawks swept the 4-5-6 spots with freshman Lewa Evans (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay) scoring 9.425, sophomore Courtney Pickett (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) vaulting to a 9.400 and junior Hannah Lee (Clarksville, TN/Clarksville) posting a 9.350. UW-Whitewater totaled 47.450 to take an early lead after one rotation.

The Warhawks kept their momentum going on the uneven bars in the second rotation. Fiorilli notched her season-best swinging to a score of 9.625. UW-Whitewater swept the top four spots in the event with Pickett second with a 9.600. Sophomore Grayson Esslinger (Oshkosh, WI/Oshkosh West) posted a score of 9.575 to finish third and senior Cici Talcott (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood) registered a 9.525 to tie for fourth. The Warhawks total in the event, 47.675, extended their lead to nearly two points at the halfway point.

The Titans closed the gap in the third rotation on the floor as UW-Whitewater was forced to count falls on the beam. Junior beam specialist Kristen Shackleton (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way Central) provided the high note on the event for the Warhawks with her season-high 9.650 to win the event. Heuer was third with a routine scoring 9.550. The Warhawks led 141.650-140.400 heading into the final rotation.

Lee swung the momentum back into UW-Whitewater's corner opening the final rotation with a 9.700, her season-high, on the floor. Evans and Heuer followed with back-to-back 9.775's, both individual season-best, to tie for the top spot in the event. Talcott put the finishing touches on senior night with her signature Michael Jackson montage routine scoring 9.750. The Warhawks totaled 48.000 in the event to seal the win.

UW-Oshkosh's Krystal Walker tied Evans and Heuer on the floor with a 9.775 and won the all-around with a total of 38.275. Fiorilli and Pickett finished second and third respectively with totals of 37.600 and 37.100.

The Warhawks will have two weeks to prepare for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/National Collegiate Gymnastics Association West Regional meet hosted by Hamline University March 15.
