The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's gymnastics team set the school record on the vault with a total of 48.175 to bolster a 191.600-185.675 win over Hamline University in the Warhawks' home-opener.
Three Warhawks vaulted to a 9.7 or better in the first event of the evening. Senior
Cici Talcott (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood) registered the high score of the night, 9.775, tied for the fourth highest vault score in UW-Whitewater history. Teammates
Chloe Rehberg (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) and
Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) tied for second with vaults scoring 9.7.
Courtney Pickett (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) made it a sweep of the top four spots with a 9.55.
Hannah Lee (Clarksville, TN/Clarksville) provided the fifth scoring vault with a 9.45 for the team's highest score on the event in program history.
Senior
Stephanie Cross (Arizona City, AZ/Casa Grande Union) posted her best score on the uneven bars as a Warhawk, a 9.7 to win the event and write her name in the program record book with the ninth best scoring routine in program history. Tied for second,
Grayson Esslinger (Oshkosh, WI/Oshkosh West) and Talcott each notched scores of 9.65. Fiorilli was fourth in the competition with a score of 9.575 and
Caroline Holverson (Kenosha, WI/Westosha Central) added a 9.425 to the team total. UW-Whitewater scored 48.000 in the event, the fourth highest team total on the uneven bars in school history.
A three-way tie for first place on the balance beam featured two Warhawks. Lee and Heuer each posted a 9.7 to tie Hamline's Jacklyn Clements for top honors. Pickett and Fiorilli went 4-5 in the event with scores of 9.625 and 9.45 respectively.
Kristen Shackleton (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way Central) tied for seventh with a performance scoring 9.25. The five scoring Warhawks totaled 47.725 in the event, fourth best in school history.Â
Pickett led the charge on UW-Whitewater's final event of the evening. Her floor routine scored a 9.7, the highest in the meet. Heuer, Evans and Lee made it a sweep of the top four spots with scores of 9.65, 6.475 and 9.45 respectively. Fiorilli added a 9.425 as the Warhawks totaled 47.700.Â
Two Warhawks competed in all four events. Pickett won the all-around with her second consecutive all-around total of 38.225. Fiorilli totaled 38.150 in the all-around competition.
UW-Whitewater will host UW-Eau Claire in its annual breast cancer awareness meet Saturday, Jan. 31 beginning at 4 p.m. in Russell Arena. The Warhawks will also honor the alumni during and after the competition.Â
