John Gottwald (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) and
Kyle Sundby (Verona/Verona) have been picked as UW-Whitewater men's soccer players of the week.
John Gottwald (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee), the offensive pick, scored two goals on eight shots in two wins last week for the Warhawks. In a 1-0 win over Dubuque Gottwald fired three shots while playing the entire 94 minutes of the overtime game. In a 3-0 win over Beloit Gottwald notched two goals on five shots in just 30 minutes of action. Gottwald's first goal came in the ninth minute of play while his second goal came just 47 seconds into the second half. The Warhawks are now 6-0-0.
Defender, Sundby, anchored a defense that led the Warhawks to two shutout victories last week. In a 1-0 overtime victory over Dubuque Sundby scored the game-winning goal and helped the Warhawk defense hold the Spartans to just 8 shots, two on goal. In a 3-0 victory over Beloit the Warhawks limited the Buccaneers to just one shot in the game. Sundby played the entire 94 minutes in the overtime win against Dubuque and 45 minutes against Beloit. In addition, Sundby earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athlete of the week honors. The Warhawks are undefeated with a record of 6-0-0.
The Warhawks will take on Carroll College on September 25, at 7:00 in Whitewater.
