Academic All-District Honors for Bayliss and Wischmann

UW-Whitewater tennis player Alexandra Bayliss (Sheboygan/North) and gymnast Siri Wischmann (Delano, MN/Delano) have been named to the Capital One Division III District Six All-Academic Team chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.  The team recognizes a combination of excellence in the classroom and athletic endeavors.

Bayliss, a junior with majors in Spanish and elementary education, has a 3.81 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) and has earned a spot on the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholastic Honor Roll for three years.  She made the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete list all three years.

Bayliss helped UW-W win the WIAC title all three years she played, as well as earn a berth in the NCAA Division III championship tournament.  UW-W advanced to the NCAA sweet sixteen in the 2013 tournament.  She compiled a 28-8 record at number two singles, and teamed up with Sydney Divelbiss (Middleton/Middleton) to go 20-7 at one doubles.  Bayliss earned ITA All-America honors as a junior in 2012 with her finish in the regional and national tournament, and won three WIAC tournament singles flights and twice won the number one doubles.

Wischmann, a senior majoring in elementary education (math and coaching), has a 3.75 grade point average.  She has been on the Dean's List six times, a UW-W Student Athlete Achievement Award recipient three times, and a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll three times.  She was chosen the 2013 WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar Athlete for Gymnastics, was named a National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches Association Scholastic All-American in 2010 and 2012, and received the UW-W's Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award this spring.

In the gym, Wischmann helped UW-W win three WIAC titles in four years, and share the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association championship in 2012 and win the title outright in 2013.  She earned All-America status in two events at the NCGA championship in 2012 and 2013.

To be nominated for the award, student athletes must have reached sophomore standing in their institution with a cumulative grade point average above 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. Nominated student athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games this season and have been enrolled in their current school for a full academic year.
