UW-Whitewater's Daniel Bickett has been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Central Region Assistant Men's Coach of the Year.

"I am excited to know that coach Bickett's accomplishments have been recognized with him being awarded the Regional Assistant Coach of the Year," UW-W tennis coordinator Frank Barnes said.  "He is a very deserving candidate.  His work with individual workouts, recruiting, practices, match coaching, social media, and scouting over the past six years has been one of the reasons our team has reached the next level and stayed there consistently.  I'd like to thank him for his commitment and dedication," added Barnes.

Bickett is the top assistant to Barnes.  Although Bickett was honored for his work with the UW-W men's team, he works with both UW-W teams.  The Warhawk men rolled up a 20-12 dual meet record against the strongest schedule in school history (four Division I opponents, seven nationally ranked Division III opponents).  UW-W qualified for the NCAA Division III championship tournament for the seventh consecutive year.  UW-W earned a first round bye and lost to Gustavus Adolphus College in the second round of the national tourney.  In addition, Bickett has worked with Ben Shklyar (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and Mitch Osborne (Crystal Lake, IL/Central), who have qualified for the NCAA III individual championship in singles (Shklyar) and doubles.  That tournament will be played in Kalamazoo, Michigan May 23-25.

Although not officially part of the award, Bickett also made contributions to the women's team, which won a sixth straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship, and advanced to the NCAA III championship tournament for the sixth straight year.  The Warhawks advanced to the sweet sixteen of the national meet, and finished the year with a 20-9 record.

The 2012-2013 season was Bickett's seventh season as a player and coach at UW-Whitewater. Bickett was a member of the Warhawk men's tennis team for the 2006-2007 season. The following season Bickett was hired as the assistant coach for the men's and women's teams and was promoted to assistant head coach in the summer of 2012. Bickett has also served as the men's and women's recruiting coordinator since 2010.

In 2010 the Intercollegiate Tennis Association honored Coach Bickett as the Division III National Assistant Coach of the Year for his outstanding work with the UW-Whitewater women's team. Bickett has been a certified tennis professional through the United States Professional Tennis Association since 2008.

Bickett has worked many jobs in the tennis industry all over the country including serving as Head Racquets Pro at Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Illinois and Ivanhoe Country Club in Mundelein, Illinois. Bickett has served as a tennis professional at College Park Athletic Club in Bannockburn, Illinois, Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Illinois, and Copperfield Racquet and Health Club in Houston, Texas. While studying for his bachelor's at Whitewater Bickett served as the head boys' varsity coach at Madison West High School for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Coach Bickett has been certified as a master racquet technician by the United States Racquet Stringer's Association since 2009 and performs all stringing services for both teams. Coach Bickett received his bachelor's degree in finance from UW-Whitewater in 2010, and received his master's degree in health, human performance and recreation from UW-Whitewater in 2012.
