FRIDAY
Lexie Sondgeroth (Rochelle, IL/Township) and Melanie Pilon (Waukesha/South) earned All-America honors to lead the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track and field team at the NCAA III indoor championship hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.

Sondgeroth placed second in the long jump with a best of 19-0.75.  Melissa Norville of Illinois College won the event with a mark of 19-8.75.  Sondgeroth repeats the All-America recognition she earned with an eighth place finish in last year's national indoor meet.  She is the second UW-W woman to earn the distinction in the long jump, with Becky Karls winning the event in 1993.

Melanie Pilon (Waukesha/South) placed eighth in the pole vault, going 12-3.5.  Michelle Favre of Ramapo College took first place with a height of 13-3.5.  Pilon is the first Warhawk woman to earn All-America honors in the pole vault.

Sondgeroth has the top seed among the UW-W participants.  She is listed second in the long jump field with her best of 19-6.25, the UW-W record.  Melissa Norville of Illinois College has the top mark coming into the meet, at 21-0.5.  Sondgeroth earned All-America honors by finishing eighth in the long jump in the 2012 NCAA III indoor meet, joining Becky Karls, the 1993 champion, as the only UW-W athletes to earn All-America honors in the long jump. The NCAA III record in the long jump is held by Skye Morrison of Wartburg College, set in last year's meet.

Sondgeroth, with a school record time of 7.75, also earned a spot in the 60 meter race at the NCAA III indoor meet.  Sasha Henry of Buffalo State is the top qualifier with a best of 7.63.

Brom has the seventh fastest qualifying time in the 800 meters, at 2:13.33.  Tara Clemens of Illinois Wesleyan has the top time in the field, 2:10.48.  The UW-Whitewater 800 record, 2:12.60, was set by Megan Kielar in 2006.  UW-W's Kara Krumenauer placed sixth in the 2000 NCAA indoor meet, and Kielar placed seventh in 2005 and fifth in 2006 as UW-W's second All-American in the 800.  The NCAA III record is 2:06.89, set by Genesia Eddins, of Massachusetts-Boston in 1987.

Strohmaier's qualifying height in the high jump is 5-6.5, ninth in the field.  Elizabeth Evans of Rose Hulman Institute has a 5-10 mark to lead the entrants.  The NCAA III record, 5-10.5, was set by Evans last year.  Whitewater's indoor record of 5-10.75 is held by Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker), set last spring.  Demos placed sixth in the NCAA III meet in 2010, then moved up to second place in both 2011 and 2012.

Melanie Pilon (Waukesha/South), the UW-W recordholder in the pole vault at 12-5.5, is ninth in the list of competitors.  Michelle Favre of Ramapo College heads the field at 13-9.75.  Abigail Schaffer of Moravian College set the D3 record at 13-8.25 in 2011.  Whitewater has never had an All-American in the pole vault.

The top eight finishers in each event, and top teams in each relay, earn All-America honors.

UW-W is ranked ninth in this week's USTFCCCAA Division III poll.

UW-Whitewater tied for twenty-eighth place in last year's NCAA III indoor meet.  That followed a tie for nineteenth in 2011 and tie for sixteenth in 2010.  The Warhawks' best finish ever, fourth, came in 2000.
