The National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championship at the Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin concluded with the individual events Saturday, with the four champions representing four different schools.
Sarah Nadrowski of New York-Cortland, crowned the all-around champion Friday night, added the vault championship Saturday. Nadrowski scored 9.7 on the vault, with Jena Jondahl of Winona State second at 9.55. Third place was a four-way tie, all at 9.525. That group included
Delina Phillips (Capac, MI/) of UW-Whitewater.
Siri Wischmann (Delano, MN/Delano), Courtney Benson of Hamline University, and Olivia Sylvestro of New York-Brockport. Sylvestro placed fifth in the vault at the 2012 NCGA meet, and Wischmann was ninth.
Stephanie Schuler of New York-Brockport took first place in the balance beam with her score of 9.625. Krystal Walker of UW-Oshkosh took second place, 9.525. Michaela McCamey of UW-Eau Claire, last year's balance beam champion, shared third place with Brittany Baglow of Springfield College, both with scores of 9.50. Baglow was the third place finisher in Friday's all-around competition.
Hamline's Benson was the only gymnast to finish among the top three in more than one event, adding the floor exercise title to her third place on the vault. Benson, who was second in the floor exercise at the 2012 NCGA championship, scored 9.70. New York-Cortland's Courtney Mangini, tied for third in this event a year ago, moved up to second with her 9.675. Third place went to
Mary Kate Young (Lawrenceville, GA/Cullins Hill) of UW-Whitewater, eighth in this event in 2012, took third place with a score of 9.650.
UW-Whitewater swept the top three places on the uneven parallel bars.
Cici Talcott (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood), 9.725, won the bars, followed by teammate
Annie Mix (Olive Branch, MS/SBEC) at 9.675. UW-W's
Katie Thompson (Kingsport, TN/Sullivan South), second in Friday's all-around competition and second on the uneven bars in 2012, was among three gymnasts tied for third at 9.625. Thompson was joined by Rachel Behmer of UW-Eau Claire and Christine Niles of Ithaca College, who was twelfth in the bars last year.
UW-Whitewater won the 2013 NCGA team championship Friday night. The Warhawks scored 1789.75 points, with UW-La Crosse second 186.575, and New York-Cortland third 185.90. Nadrowksi (38.10), Thompson (37.95), and Baglow (37.65) earned the top three spots in the all-around competition.
