Kris Russell, one of the most successful coaches in UW-Whitewater athletic history, was honored at the dedication of the school's volleyball facility -- renamed the Kris Russell Volleyball Arena -- Friday night.

UW-W director of athletics Dr. Paul Plinske served as the master of ceremonies, chancellor Dr. Richard Telfer spoke about the naming process and Russell's accomplishments, and Russell addressed the largest volleyball crowd of the year, swelled by friends, family and former players.

The arena dedication at the entrance to the arena reads:

    In recognition of your many contributions leading to the establishmenht of a nationally recognized
    volleyball program, the academic and athletic success of all your students, and to the reputation of the 
    women's athletics program, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is proud to name this facility:
