Dave Wiederrecht Resigns as Women's Track and Field Coach

Head women's track and field coach Dave Wiederrecht resigned his head coaching position on August 10th, 2010. He began coaching at UW-Whitewater in September of 2005, continuing a tradition of Warhawk track and field excellence at the conference and national level. During his time with UW-Whitewater, Wiederrecht had this to say, “We were able to achieve a lot of the goals that I set.” “The coaching staff is great and they will continue on being successful.” “I'm confident the team was better developed than when I came in five years ago.” Wiederrecht coached four seasons at UW-W, coming to UW-W prior to the start of the 2006 season.

“In a short time, Dave helped establish a strong and up and coming women's track and field program. His teams showed progress in the WIAC and on a national stage during his four seasons on campus. I am especially appreciative of his effort to collaborate a group of female student-athletes and provide a quality athletic experience for them. He is leaving this program in a good position. We are sad to see him move to other personal endeavors, but we wish him and his family the best.” said Athletics Director Dr. Paul Plinske.

On the vacant position, Athletics Director Dr. Paul Plinske had this to say, “The athletic department will move promptly to fill Dave's position with a qualified instructor and coach to begin the new academic year.” More information to come in the week ahead.

In Wiederrecht's five years as head women's track and field coach he coached six Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions to ten conference titles. At the national level he saw three of his athletes earn All-America honors a total of five times. Wiederrecht lived a coaches' dream as he was able to help Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville) and Brooke Bell (Milwaukee/Alexander Hamilton) attain national titles in the discus throw and 200 meter dash respectively. In 2006 Wiederrecht led the team to a 36th place finish at the indoor national championships, and in 2009 he was able to coach them to a 16th place finish at the outdoor national championships. Below is a list of athletes that he coached to WIAC titles, All-American finishes, and national team finishes.
