School Bars Record Falls in Win Over Blue Devils

Warhawks Break School Bars Record
The UW-W gymnasts swung their way to a new school record on the uneven bars in the 185.775-173.875 win over UW-Stout late Saturday afternoon.

The meet, designated breast cancer awareness night, showcased a number of student athletes from the double coverage and leaders in action learning communities. These students meet once a week to discuss the many ways they can give back to the community and show their gratitude for the tremendous amount of support they show athletics here at Whitewater. Teaming up with breast cancer awareness, these students helped pass around containers for donations to go directly to funds to fight against breast cancer.

The Warhawks used team scores from each event that broke into the UW-W record book to accumulate a total team score that places fifth for UW-W all-time. Warhawks Justine Weyer, Annie MixMary Kate Young, Veronica Overby and Lauren Corrigan put together a stellar performance on the uneven bars breaking the previous school record of 46.025 with a 46.450 finish. Whitewater's team of Weyer, Young, Katie Thompson, Overby, and Leah Applin took the top three places at the meet on the balance beam totaling 47.025, good enough for third place in the UW-W record book.

Individually, Weyer placed atop the competition in the beam with a meet high score of 9.7 and the bars with a 9.575. Allison Nelson vaulted her way into a tie for top honors with a 9.375.

UW-W will travel to Winona State University in Minnesota Friday, February 12 before returning home for senior day on February 27 against Gustavus Adolphus College at 2:00 pm.
