Warhawks Fifth, Puts Three Records in Record Book

Sunday, March 15 concluded the Warhawks' season at the United States Bowling Conference Intercollegiate Sectionals in Fairview Heights, IL. Whitewater placed fifth of eleven teams with a total pinfall of 11,502, one place short from advancing to the USBC Championships.

Overall scores for the tournament were, Wichita State 12,473; Wright State 11,678; Newman 11,591; Calumet College 11,540;  Wisconsin-Whitewater 11,502; Western Illinois 11,372; Elmhurst College 11,329; Michigan State 11,191; Illinois 10,946; Illinois State 10,870; Wisconsin-Green Bay 9,681. The top four teams will advance to the USBC Championship on April 15-18.

Not all was bad on the lanes, however. Whitewater put themselves in the record book three times. Erin Bault (Elgin, IL/Elgin) is in the record book in tenth with a high series of 676. In baker matches, two records were set. The first game was a 236, putting that as eleventh place and a 233 game, which ties them for fourteenth.

Eleven Whitewater bowlers competed in the singles round of the tournament that was unattached from the overall standings of the baker matches. Whitewater was led by Bault  who finished tied in fourth(1258) of seventy-two bowlers. Close behind was Kayla Schmidt (Johnston, IA/Johnston) tied for sixth (1202), and Ashley Keclik (Hoffman Estates, IL/Fremd) in fourteenth (1166). Danielle Sternberg (Green Bay/N.E.W. Lutheran) finished in the number twenty-five spot (1121) and rounding out the top five finishers for the Warhawks was Kayci Sommer (Waukesha/Waukesha West) in thirty-ninth (1080).
