Men's Cross Country

'Hawks Finish 8th at NCAA DIII Midwest Regional

The UW-Whitewater men's cross country team finished eighth out of 39 teams at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Midwest Regional Championship at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wisconsin on Saturday.  The top two teams and top seven individuals who are not a member of those teams automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship on November 21 in Beachwood, Ohio.  Additional team and individual selections will be announced on Sunday, November 15.

Aron Kehoe (Monroe/Monroe) finished in 25:04, 22nd place, and was the top Warhawk finisher.  Kehoe's time is the third best by a UW-W runner this season and his second best.

Dan Machmueller (Milwaukee/West Allis Hale), 25:08, 25th place

North Central College (IL) won the regional with a score of 21.  Finishing second was UW-La Crosse with 105 points.  Both teams automatically advance to the NCAA Championship.  The seven individuals advancing automatically are: Jason Garvens (UW-Platteville), Chris Zook (Augustana, IL), Christopher Wirtz (UW-Eau Claire), Nate Stymiest (UW-Oshkosh), Jason Lindelof (UW-Superior), Patrick Klein (UW-Platteville), and Michael Burnstein (Washington University).

The top 35 finishers in the regional earn All-Midwest Region honors.  Kehoe, Machmueller and Werve get to add that their impressive athletic resumes.

UW-W will await the announcement of the remaining teams to earn a trip to the NCAA Championship.  If the Warhawks do not receive an invitation, their 2009 season will come to an end.
