Dominican University defeated UW-Whitewater 1-0 in a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Tournament first round game played Saturday afternoon at Fiskum Field in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

The match narrowly avoided going in to overtime, with the Stars' Matt Kochanowski (jr, Arlington, Heights, IL) scoring an unassisted goal at 87:38.  Kochanowski intercepted a pass from a Warhawk defender about twenty yards to the right of the Whitewater goal

Dominican, 17-3-1, is making its sixth consecutive NCAA III Tournament appearance.  The Stars will play in the regional final Sunday agains the winner of the other semifinal, Carthage College of Washington University.  Sunday's match begins at 1:00 at Fiskum Field on the north end of the UW-Whitewater campus.

UW-Whitewater, 15-3-2, was making its sixth appearance in seven years in the NCAA III Tournament. 

The NCAA III men's soccer tournament opened play with fifty-seven teams.  Regional winners will advance to sectional play next week, with the final four teams gathering at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida November 23-24.
