Mission
Statement

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Intercollegiate Athletics Department will contribute to the educational process of our students by providing an environment that supports the educational mission of the University and a quality intercollegiate athletic experience. An integral part of this mission is the Division III philosophy that student-athletes are indeed students first, athletes second and therefore, earning a baccalaureate is paramount. Excellence in academics and athletics is an expected result of the Warhawk athletic experience.

Strategic Plan

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Intercollegiate Athletics plays an important role in helping the institution attain its goals and objectives. Our student-athletes, coaches and staff are focused on creating one of the best NCAA Division III programs in the country. The following initiatives outline our goals as a department:

Programs and Learning:  To expand and extend learning by providing dynamic and accessible educational and co-curricular programs.

In Athletics, this will be done by:  Enhancing the number of student-athlete opportunities for women and improving the proportionality of male and female student-athletes as compared to the undergraduate student body population

The Scholar-Educator Community:  To further develop UW-W’s reputation as a community of scholar-educators and professionals who possess and practice excellence in the creation of new knowledge and its effective integration in teaching, research, learning and problem solving.

In Athletics, this will be done by:  Placing in the top 15 of the NACDA Directors’ Cup final standings for NCAA Division III athletics, winning the WIAC All-Sports Award for men, women, and as a combined program, and developing private funds to support new athletic facilities and staffing.

Diversity and Global Perspectives:  To develop UW-Whitewater’s reputation as an institution that truly values and nurtures diverse intellectual, cultural, creative and service opportunities for teaching and learning in the campus community.

In Athletics, this will be done by:
Increasing the percentage of multicultural student-athletes, females and minorities in staff and leadership positions.

Regional Service:
To enhance UW-W’s visibility as a valued educational, economic, and cultural resource and an integral part of regional communities.

In Athletics, this will be done by:  Enhancing the visibility of the Athletic Department through expanded communication, marketing and media relations.

Professional and Personal Integrity:  To build on UW-W’s reputation as an institution of lasting integrity, which is actively and visibly demonstrated through the words and deeds of faculty, staff, and students.

In Athletics, this will be done by:  Foster a culture that values personal responsibility among all staff and student-athletes and encourage all members of the Department to communicate and exemplify good citizenship, leadership and scholarship.
